Animation scriptwriting for Scottish Enterprise

Video content writing for Scottish Enterprise.

Using video content to get an idea across.

Scottish Enterprise is Scotland’s main economic development agency, helping public and private businesses to develop and boosting the Scottish economy.

They wanted to help businesses understand there's more to innovation than just developing new products, and that innovating is just as beneficial to smaller businesses as it is to larger ones.

Writing the story.

The video's content had to touch on various points Scottish Enterprise wanted to make, and also needed to include a number of specific examples while maintaining a simple, linear narrative. I needed to fit all this messaging into a short timeframe though, with around two minutes to tell the whole story.

So I included references to various case studies of real Scottish success stories, all about businesses that had innovated in some way. As well as writing the script, suggestions for voiceover style and music, I wrote directions for the visuals too. For instance, a subtle graphic match helps each case study to transition into the next, carrying the story forward smoothly.

The results.

The video was produced by Whitespace, and brilliantly animated by the talented artists at Fab. The voiceover was recorded, and the finished animation was uploaded and promoted on social media. It gained publicity for Scottish Enterprise's message, received many positive comments online, and even picked up a commendation at the Scottish Creative Awards.
