TV ad scriptwriting

TV ad script for The Sunday Post.

The brief.

Write a 30-second TV spot for a Burns Night cookery book sampler giveaway with the Sunday post newspaper. Use two brands (The Broons and The Sunday Post) but don’t show any of The Broons characters or give them voices due to licensing restrictions. No pressure.

The script.

Determined not to let a tough brief stop me, I wrote several scripts to tackle the problem. But the appeal of Burns, The Broons and The Sunday Post all had one thing in common - words. So I rewrote Scotland's most famous recipe in the style of Scotland's most famous poet, Robert Burns. The resulting TV ad dramatically increased sales of The Sunday Post, making sure their Burns Night issue was a runaway success.
